Culture Prophet
Culture Prophet is the sound of yearning, of a never-ceasing desire for something bigger, louder, and sweatier. Their rough-edged, aggressively danceable, electodisco calls-to-action combine a thoroughly grown-up sexuality with a childlike longing for freedom from restraint, and the result is pure dancefloor mayhem.
Band History
Culture Prophet began in 2004 as a release for Michael Barksdale's funkier inclinations. He had been pursuing his electronic-pop dreams with his Le Chevre project, but soon enough turned his attention full-time to the beat, and was reborn as "The Prophet". He subsequently enlisted the services of Swuan De Noisey (Backseat Dreamer) on drums, and CP began performing as a duo throughout the Southeastern United States. After dozens of sweaty, near-riotous performances and several signature remixes of their contemporaries, Culture Prophet began to get noticed. They have been mentioned by influential blogs, remixed by other artists, played by DJs worldwide, and praised by the electro-loving internet community at large. With the addition of Chicago's Dag Joe in 2008, the group got even deeper into the groove.
Culture Prophet currently performs their live act mostly as a duo once again, with Dag Joe at the controls, and The Prophet up front (and out of control). They have also teamed up to DJ massive parties and hold down their own residency, combining their own remixes and edits with personal influences and favorites. Culture Prophet DJ sets are always unpredictable in their loving coupling of the hottest new electro joints with classics and underground tracks from the entire history of dance music, and they never fail to leave the crowd exhausted and turned-on to music they may have never heard before.
Live Shows and Touring
Culture Prophet is in the process of taking their show abroad for the month of June, with confirmed dates in France and Portugal, and several shows in the works. Fall 2008 will include more shows across the US, Mexico, and Australia, and lots of new music in some surprising directions. They are also in the market for a record label and a booking agent for both the US and Europe. Any serious inquiries and/or booking requests should be directed to either Michael or Chris.
Band Members

Michael Barksdale, aka The Prophet, was born into a life of music. Taught to play guitar by his father at an early age, he formed his first band at the tender age of 11. His projects have ranged from doom-metal (Sleeping Lord), to dance-punk (Flesh is Fantasy), to instrumental indie-folk (Auburn, Collection of Cameras), to electronic-pop (Le Chevre) - and lots of other hyphenated-genres. His interests include sweet tea and sunglasses.

Christopher Masse, aka Dag Joe, was lucky enough to have spent his youth in the vibrant music scene of Chicago in the late 80s-early 90s. Medusa's all-ages club, the mixes on WBMX and B96, loft parties on Milwaukee Avenue, underground hip-hop shows, and the amazing indie-rock of the time are the forces that molded his unique style as a DJ and musician. His interests include cooking and the Chicago Cubs.
